About
Desiring bone
Flesh consumes itself
Desiring nothing
Earth swallows all.
In my artistic exploration, I delve into the profound journey of death, not fixating on its fleeting moment but unraveling the intricate process of transformation. The essence of my work lies in witnessing the disintegration of one form melding seamlessly into another—whether plant, animal, or human—until the body gracefully merges with the earth. Within this realm, equality prevails as our decay becomes the fertile ground for regeneration, birthing new forms and embracing fresh life.
My artistic inquiry extends beyond the rebirth itself, navigating the liminal space where forms hover between identities, neither fully one entity nor another. Each piece emerges as a meditation on death, meticulously crafted through an intimate engagement with the bodies of plants, trees, and insects. Their essence intertwines with my creative process, an inseparable symbiosis that gives birth to these visual narratives.
At the core of this endeavor lies a poignant desire to awaken death awareness in a contemporary culture shrouded in fear—a culture where open discourse about death is a rarity and where the departed are often veiled in taboo. In this climate, death is all too frequently perceived as a failure, a receptacle for our collective fear of the unknown.
My purpose is to treat death with tenderness, unraveling the extraordinary beauty inherent in the process of metamorphosis. Through my art, I extend an invitation for viewers to confront their fears, envisioning an alternate approach to death and dying—one grounded in acceptance rather than denial. Could embracing the inevitability of death reshape the very fabric of how we choose to live our lives?
I challenge conventional perspectives on funerary practices by proposing a paradigm shift: envisioning our deaths not as mere endings but as contributions to the ecosystem, as sustenance for a flourishing forest. What if we reconsidered our bodies as offerings to the Earth, expressing gratitude for the lives she has nurtured and supported? Picture a world where death is openly embraced at our tables, where we express gratitude for the nourishment it provides our bodies. Through this contemplative journey, my work strives to catalyze a transformative shift in our collective worldview—a shift that embraces and honors the cycle of life and death with open arms.
